Would you like to be a mentor for Young Makers in Lakewood?

DSC00555The Lakewood Computer Clubhouse seeks adult mentors and high school seniors  who wish to inspire young people—ages 8-16—to be innovators, tinkerers, and designers.

Our Maker space is a perfect setting to delve into electronics, graphic design, robotics, video production, crafts,  video game creation, or in a “mad scientist” sort of way, a combination of all of the above.

No experience needed! Thinking “outside of the box” is helpful. We look for a passion to reach out to young people as role models, fellow makers, and nerds in our volunteers!

The Starship Clubhouse located at Lochburn Middle School is open Monday-Thursday (3:00pm-5:30pm).

The Starship Possibility located in the Science Dome at Pierce College is open Fridays from 5:30pm-8:30pm (in room RAI262).

Mentors are needed to commit to an hour or so each week.  Monday is a  “girls only” program at the Starship Clubhouse. Women are encouraged to come and create alongside the members on Mondays, but male mentors are welcome any day of the week.

Find out more by dropping by the Clubhouse when we are open or emailing the current Clubhouse co-coordinators:

  • Hannah Dominguez : hdominguez@pierce.ctc.edu
  • Allison Church : achurch@pierce.ctc.edu

If you already know you would like to volunteer, fill out this quick contact form here and let us know! We will get you started ASAP.

*Please note we run a Washington State Patrol background check on all volunteers to ensure the safety of our members. We only look for incidents that might impact ability to work with minors. We will not complete a background check until we receive written permission to do so (ie, filling out the volunteer form on first visit)*
