SAVE THE DATE!!!
April 16, 2011 – 9:00 a.m. to Noon
Please save the date so you can join us at the City of Lakewood’s 9th annual Parks Appreciation Day celebration, Saturday, April 16, 2011. We are planning projects at Fort Steilacoom Park, Harry Todd Park, Kiwanis Park and Wards Lake Park. Join us between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and noon as we participate in a county-wide Parks Appreciation Day and jointly celebrate Earth Day, Arbor Day and National Parks Week.
You should dress appropriately for the weather; bring clearly-labeled hand tools from home (including such things as pruners, gloves, rakes, shovels, small pitch forks) and your enthusiasm, smiles and energy! This is a FUN event in the outdoors and you’ll be able to help prepare our local parks for the busy spring/summer seasons.
Last year, hundreds of flowers and shrubs were planted on Parks Appreciation Day and wood chips and mulch were spread on flower beds and playgrounds. In other years we’ve cleaned out barns, dismantled fences, painted shelters, built sidewalks, pressure washed playground equipment . . . the list is endless for the projects we’ve completed on previous Parks Appreciation Days. This year, new projects are planned to improve our local parks. We need your help.
Tami is gone for the next two weeks on vacation so we have to adjust a little bit.
1. Monday Girls’ Day will be cancelled. Homeschool class and robotics will still go on.
2. On Wednesday, the Clubhouse will not open until 4:30 on March 2 and March 9. I teach robotics in Tillicum until 4:15 but I’ll try to hurry back. You may have to hang outside a bit.
After Tami returns we’ll go back to our normal schedule.
The Computer Clubhouse will be videotaping City Council meetings as part as our “giving back” to the community. Most every Monday, Kurt will be looking for one volunteer to help him work the cameras. The council meetings run from 7:00 to 9:00 with us needing to set-up by 6:30.
This is a great chance to learn a bit about local government, enjoy a burger from Carls Jr, and meet some of the people that keep Lakewood running.
Contact Kurt if you want to help out.
A couple of Changes……
Wednesday Homeschool Class is now cancelled due to low enrollment.
Starting in March, we will offer Robotics on Mondays only.
We will be offering SPECIAL PROGRAMS on Half-Day Wednesdays – stay tuned…
Thank you Kaila, Demetrius, Joshua, Schnell & Roberto for your great work and enthusiasm filming the Martin Luther King event.
The videos are posted HERE.
The Clubhouse will be filming the Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration on Saturday, January 15th at the McGavick Center at Clover Park Technical College. We will be using two cameras a and a computer so we’ll need at least four members to do this. (2 on cameras, one on computer, one director)
We will be SETTING UP on Friday, January 14th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The Clubhouse will be CLOSED that day.
On SATURDAY the crew needs to be there at 9:00 AM – the program starts at 10:00 and ends at noon.
If you want to volunteer - see Kurt.
